Client: Vue De Monde (2008)

Project: Cafe Vue sustainability baseline and advice

Challenge:Vue de monde engaged Business Shaper, (formerly Sustainable Business Practices), to develop a tailored and comprehensive sustainability baseline assessment of their business. Business Shaper, in consultation with Vue de monde staff, commenced the project by conducting a comprehensive baseline assessment with recommendations for improvement of vue de mondes head office and Cafe Vue’s operations.

As part of the sustainability project, Brand Shaper was engaged to review the packaging of Cafe Vue's lunchbox and chocolate gift box.

Solution: Vue de monde developed and submitted a successful tender application to the Heide Museum of Modern Art, to operate a Cafe Vue at the museum in Bulleen Victoria. A key factor in Vue de monde’s successful application was that both Heide and Vue de monde share a commitment to sustainability. Business Shaper worked with both Vue de monde and Heide in assisting them achieve their sustainability goals.

Deliverables:

  • Cafe Vue developed a new, improved and more sustainable lunchbox product, significantly reducing the amount of resources, including virgin fibre cardboard associated with the lunchbox's production
  • A re-design of the restaurant's chocolate gift box has lead to an approximate reduction of 17,000m2 of virgin fibre cardboard used per year
  • Cafe Vue replaced the disposable cutlery distributed with their lunchbox product to second hand, washable and reusable metal cutlery for patrons eating in the Cafe
